The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its former Group CEO, Mele Kyari, have filed a counter-affidavit against a suit brought by the Incorporated Trustees of the AGIP Indigenous Contractors Association and others, challenging the award of a pipeline surveillance contract in the Niger Delta to Tantita Security Services Limited.

The contractors had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, accusing the NNPCL and Kyari of bypassing due process in awarding the contract.

The plaintiffs, who described themselves as representatives of oil-producing communities, alleged that the contract was awarded in violation of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act of 2010, and that their letters of interest to participate in the bidding process were ignored.

According to court filings seen by Nairametrics, the plaintiffs - comprising companies and individuals including Eliax Bleet Nig Ltd, Tamak Plan Oil & Gas Ltd, De-friyo Marine Services Ltd, Kalas Agai Nimitenbofa, Chief Taylor Amakiri, and Joclemsco Nig Ltd - requested the court to compel the NNPCL to include them in the bidding process and nullify the contract awarded to Tantita.
