A joint delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United States Congress has declared that the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Benue State is under close watch in Washington, D.C.

The team, led by Jessie Ainslie of UNHCR and comprising eight U.S. congressional staffers, visited Makurdion a fact-finding mission, days after renewed attacks in Yelwata and other areas left several dead and thousands displaced.

"Our hearts go out to you," Ainslie said during a courtesy visit to the Benue State Government House. "Reports of the attacks have reached Washington. I can confirm Americans are following the situation here very closely."
