US hails India's tariff cut on Agricultural Products
The Business Guardian
|September 13, 2023
The United States has expressed its appreciation for India’s recent decision to lower tariffs on various American agricultural products, including frozen turkey, frozen duck, fresh and processed blueberries and cranberries.
-

This move is seen as a positive step in strengthening trade ties between the two countries and expanding economic opportunities for American agricultural producers in the Indian market.
India’s decision to reduce tariffs on these agricultural products has been welcomed by US officials, including Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, who highlighted the importance of creating new market opportunities for American producers and exporters. The Biden-Harris Administration has been actively working to rebuild trust and strengthen trade relationships with global partners, including India, through organizations like the World Trade Organization (WTO) to ensure fair access to key export markets for US agriculture.
The recent tariff reductions build upon earlier positive developments, such as India’s lifting of retaliatory tariffs on US apples, chickpeas, lentils, almonds, and walnuts. While progress has been made, significant tariff and non-tariff barriers for American agricultural products still exist in the Indian market, according to Secretary Vilsack.
