Sugarcane gets Rs 20 boost in UP for 2023-24

In anticipation of the upcoming national elections, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has announced a significant increase in the state advised price (SAP) for all varieties of sugarcane for the 2023-24 season.

The SAP has been raised by Rs 20 per quintal, bringing it to approximately Rs 370 for early-sown varieties. This decision is expected to have a substantial impact on the agricultural landscape, particularly in UP, which is one of India's leading sugarcane-producing states.
UP boasts a substantial number of private sugar mills and is home to nearly 4.5 million farmers who are directly reliant on sugarcane cultivation. This sizable agricultural community holds significant sway as an electorate, making decisions regarding sugarcane pricing a crucial political consideration for parties in the state.
