Despite scepticism raised by residents, Panchkula Municipal Corporation inaugurated the Sector 23 dumping ground for bioremediation and land reclamation on Tuesday.

The inauguration saw the participation of heads from residents' welfare associations (RWAs) along with MC Councillors, booth workers and party office bearers.

During the event, Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal stated the project was undertaken under the amount of Rs. 11.50 crore and up till now, 5 lakh tonne of garbage dump has been removed from the site.

"Earlier, 3.5 lakh tonne was removed, then later around 50 thousand tonne was removed by previously assigned contractor. Now the remaining 1.67 lakh tonne would be removed after this inauguration." Said Goyal.

Goyal also added that under the previous government regime, the MC was charged Rs. 940 per turnover, but now it has been brought down to Rs. 670.
