Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu is set to visit India starting on October 7, marking his first standalone bilateral visit to the country since taking office in 2023.

His upcoming trip reflects a potential thaw in diplomatic ties and signals a desire to rebuild the historically strong relationship between the two nations.
Muizzu's visit will follow a brief engagement with India earlier this year when he attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June. During the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, he expressed a strong intent to strengthen bilateral ties, stating, "I am planning to visit [India] as soon as possible... We have a very strong bilateral relationship." His comments underscore the importance he places on the India-Maldives relationship, despite the complexities that have emerged since his presidency began.
