India-US alliance: A decade of geopolitical power shift
The Business Guardian
|September 26, 2024
In the last 10 years, the India-US Strategic Partnership has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as one of the most consequential partnerships of the 21st century.
-

In this period, while US saw three Presidents Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden, India has been consistently led by PM Modi.
Through these leadership transitions, the relationship between the two countries not only remained steady but also strengthened, evolving into a powerful alliance that shapes global geopolitics, geo-economics, and the digital age.
A cornerstone of this relationship has been the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET), launched to enhance collaboration in critical fields like artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and space exploration. This initiative highlights how both nations are working together to not only advance technology but also set the global standards that will govern its future.
In defence and security, the two countries have seen unprecedented cooperation over the last decade. India's designation as a "Major Defence Partner" during Barack Obama administration, which is unique to India, institutionalises the progress made to facilitate defence trade and technology sharing between the United States and India and "elevates defence trade and technology cooperation between the United States and India to a level commensurate with the closest allies and partners of the United States." Last year, PM Modi and President Biden reaffirmed their commitment to deepen and diversify the India-U.S.
Major Defence Partnership through expanded cooperation in new and emerging domains such as AI and accelerated defence industrial collaboration.
The collaboration between the nations on the final frontier space has also gone from strength to strength.
