The government has approved the release of Rs 1,650 crore to oil marketing companies for the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). This decision was made during a meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The allocation of Rs 1,650 crore will support the provision of an additional 75 lakh LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) connections under the PMUY scheme. This expansion will bring the total number of beneficiaries under the scheme to an impressive 10.35 crores. The PMUY was launched by Prime Minister Modi in May 2016 with the primary objective of providing LPG connections to women belonging to below poverty line (BPL) families across the country.
