Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for a report on allegations of phone tapping involving ministers and journalists.
-
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has requested a detailed report from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan following serious allegations made by independent legislator PV Anvar, who claimed that phone calls of ministers and journalists were being tapped. The Governor, in a letter to the Chief Minister, described these allegations as “very serious” and a direct violation of both the law and Supreme Court directives. Governor Khan emphasized that these claims, if proven true, represent a significant breach of fundamental rights.
The allegations were originally raised by MLA PV Anvar, who accused the Kerala Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for law and order, MR Ajith Kumar, of tapping the phone calls of both ministers and journalists. Governor Khan, acknowledging the gravity of these accusations, noted that while he typically refrains from taking action based solely on media reports, the severity of these claims prompted him to seek clarification from the Chief Minister. His letter emphasized the need to determine whether these allegations had been investigated, and if so, what actions were taken or planned by the state government.
