On Monday, the government informed Parliament that between April 2021 and July 2022, Google suspended or removed more than 2,500 fraudulent loan apps from its Play Store.
In a written response to the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the government is constantly engaged with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and various regulators and stakeholders concerned to control fraudulent loan apps. Regular discussions and monitoring of the matter take place in the meetings of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC), an inter-regulatory forum under the chairpersonship of the Finance Minister. The aim is to remain proactive, uphold a state of cyber security preparedness with constant vigilance, and promptly implement suitable actions to address any vulnerabilities in the Indian financial system, she said.
