E-tailers to see $13 bn festive season, non-metro sellers get more orders

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in non-metro cities in India are witnessing a surge in Diwali orders this year, outpacing their metro city counterparts, according to a report by Shiprocket, a tech-enabled logistics platform.

The report suggests that the e-commerce opportunity for Indian MSMEs during the festive season is estimated to be around $13 billion. Approximately 10-15% of the total order volume is expected to come from first-time online shoppers. Furthermore, 56% of the platform's order volume is originating from non-metro cities, indicating a significant shift towards online shopping in smaller towns and rural areas. MSMEs in tier-2, tier-3, and tier-4 cities anticipate higher Diwali gift orders compared to metro sellers.
The report highlights the rapid adoption of online shopping and digital transactions in smaller towns and rural areas in India, driven by factors like increased internet penetration, digital payment solutions, and the growing acceptance of e-commerce platforms.
