Consumer Protection tightens grip on misleading promotions

India’s Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) has issued stern warnings regarding surrogate advertising, emphasizing the necessity for strict adherence to guidelines to safeguard consumer rights.

Rohit Kumar Singh, the secretary at DoCA, emphasized the gravity of surrogate advertisements promoting products in restricted categories, stating that such practices undermine consumer rights and could have severe implications. Singh made these remarks during a consultation meeting held in Mumbai with key stakeholders, including the Advertising Standards Council of India (Asci), the All India Gaming Federation, the EGaming Federation, and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
