Air India pilots' sick leave rises post AI-171 crash: MoS Mohol

Following the tragic crash of Air India flight AI-171 on June 12, which claimed the lives of 260 passengers and crew, the airline has reported a slight increase in sick leave taken by its pilots.
The London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner had crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, leading to national mourning and intensified scrutiny over aviation safety and mental health support for airline staff.
In a written response to a question raised in the Lok Sabha by Member of Parliament Jai Prakash, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol stated that on June 16, just days after the crash, a total of 112 pilots reported sick across Air India's fleet. This included 51 commanders and 61 first officers. The data indicates a rise in sick leave, although not considered a mass walkout or strike, and appears to reflect the emotional toll the incident has had on Air India's flying staff.
