A police major and two of his men, as well as two inmates of the Caloocan City Police Station, were arrested for allegedly extorting money from the visitors of the detainees during an entrapment operation over the weekend.

- By AARON RECUENCO

Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the operation stemmed from the complaint of the relatives of one of the inmates who claimed that they are being forced to pay at least P1,500 per visit.

The policemen allegedly told the visitors that of the P1,500 payment, a total of P200 is payment as entry fee, P550 for using the waiting area, P100 as mandatory food for the detainee during the visit and other expenses.
