PENSIONER STUNS CARE HOME RESIDENTS WITH TALES FROM HER CHILDHOOD

Iris shares memories of how she 'saved' Princess Margaret

A 91-year-old from Surrey has revealed she learnt to swim with the late Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret - and had to regularly “rescue” one of them.

Iris Barlow attended a swimming group at the prestigious Bath Club, in London’s West End, alongside the royal duo.

She stunned her care home by revealing she had been “buddies” with the young Princess Margaret during the swimming classes, which meant they had to practice saving each other from drowning.

Iris's nephew Robin said: “My aunt has always been very proud of her time spent with the late Queen and her sister.

“As part of the ladies programme they learnt lifesaving methods. Iris was Princess Margaret's ‘buddy,’ and each had to take turns in saving the other to qualify and gain their medals.”
