Honours recognise careers from bonsai to Red Cross

THIS year’s recipients of the King's Birthday Honours have been named - with a string of the great and the good hailing from or working in Surrey.

From a bonsai expert to charity champions, community heroes and Whitehall servants, it is an eclectic bunch as ever. Those honoured in East Surrey include Jes Chandler, a well-known face in Reigate, who has been a key part of Reigate Business Guild, working to promote and enhance the town for many years. He receives a British Empire Medal, as does British Red Cross emergency response volunteer, Jonathan (Jon) Richards, from Ashtead. The Red Cross paid tribute to his “extraordinary contribution", adding his decades of volunteering “brought comfort and support to people facing some of life's toughest challenges”.
