Hard work pays off as Gibbins secures double win
Surrey Mirror
|June 05, 2025
OFF the back of the opening rounds at Silverstone in April where Michael Gibbins secured a win in the first race and then an unfortunate retirement due to a mechanical failure from the lead in the second, he arrived at his home circuit Brands Hatch eager to get his championship defence back on track.
-
The weekend did not get off to a good start, with car issues throughout Friday interrupting his running and limiting the opportunity to test and optimise the car.
Eventually the day was cut short when a front suspension failure resulted in the front corner of the car needing to be rebuilt. The team had a late night, however got everything fixed ready for the first competitive session of the weekend.
This started with qualifying, where securing a position right at the front is important as the fast, flowing, but narrow circuit does not lend itself to easy overtaking. A session interrupted by red flags was not enough to put Caterham's Gibbins off, and his best lap was good enough for pole position and nearly half a second clear of his nearest rival.
