Spoiler alert as Mazda goes fully electric

Time was when driving was relatively simple once you'd learnt to change gear and reverse without bumping into the kerb. The controls were laid out in a straightforward sequence.

Modern drivers can drop the gear changing and, in some cars, the ability to reverse into a parking space but now need to add a high degree of tech savvy to the list if they are to keep up with the latest advances.

Mazda's all new fully electric rear wheel drive hatchback is devoid of buttons, levers, dials and switches. All the controls that used to be spread out across the dash are now contained in a large screen on the centre console. That takes a little getting used to.
