Losing the thrill of the chase – Hunted is just too predictable
Sunderland Echo
|October 22, 2025
The fugitive has just confessed that they think they're safe.
They're ignorant to the fact that the hunters are outside waiting for the exact right moment to pounce.
The music crunches, the fugitive second guesses themselves, and a chase through back gardens and alleyways suddenly ensues. It's thrilling TV but I feel like I've seen these scenes before.
When Channel 4's Hunted first arrived on our screens in 2015, it set a simple challenge for nine civilians - evade capture for 28 days and win a share of £100,000.
Chasing them down was a team of hunters equipped with powers of the state and a fleet of Volvo XC90s. The test was set: How easy is it to disappear?
The difficulty in hiding is that as Hunted shows, there are traces of your movement absolutely everywhere.
Almost every action you take can be mapped by using CCTV, number plate recognition and checking your search history.
Assembled in a room lit up by computer screens, the hunters, who are all current or former intelligence and police professionals, have the power in their hands to determine both exactly who you are and where you are.
