Sunderland Echo
|December 08, 2025
Former Sunderland academy star Caden Kelly has been backed to bounce back from a hamstring injury that has disrupted his impressive introduction to life with non-league neighbours South Shields.
Caden Kelly
The former Manchester City prospect became a regular feature in the Black Cats Under-18s and Under-21s sides following a move to Wearside, and earned his first senior appearance as a substitute in an EFL Trophy meeting with Manchester United Under-21s in October 2021 before featuring in a Carabao Cup tie with Sheffield Wednesday just under a year later.
Kelly was handed the first loan move of his young career when he joined Darlington during the second half of last season and impressed as he scored six goals and provided six assists in 28 appearances for the National League North club.
