Heartfelt tributes have been paid following the death of a Labour councillor and former mayor of Sunderland City Council who "worked tirelessly to bring people together".
Cllr Dorothy Trueman after being confirmed as Mayor of Sunderland
Dorothy Trueman was first elected to the city council in 2010 in the Washington West ward and served as Mayor of Sunderland for 12 months from May 2023.
She began her working life at Pyrex as an office clerk, where she met her husband, Cllr Harry Trueman, and she went on to work in post offices and the Sunderland Crown office for 20 years.
During her time on the council, the mother-of-two served on various committees, including as a member of the adoption panel for several years.
