All-conquering Sunderland RFC make history

Never in its 151-year history has Sunderland RFC's 1st XV had a league season like the one just ended.
The team topped Durham and Northumberland League One with a record of 22 wins out of 22, accumulating 107 points, scoring over 900 points. The club gained promotion and champion status a few weeks ago. However, the icing on the cake came on Saturday with a hard-fought 36-17 victory over Ryton.
"The club's records are extensive -stretching back to 1873-and evidence shows that we have never had a season like this one," notes club historian Keith Gregson.
"The only 1st XV loss was by a narrow margin in a cup game away to a team in a higher league."
