THE traditional leader of the Nxamalala Traditional Authority returns to the Howick Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for a bail hearing in relation to the murder of the DA’s chief whip in uMngeni Local Municipality, Nhlalayenza Ndlovu.
Inkosi Simphiwe Erick Zuma, 56, was arrested last month by the Political Killings Task Team for the murder of Ndlovu, who is his nephew.
His bail attempt has been postponed twice.
Ndlovu was gunned down in front of his wife and their young children in eMpophomeni, Howick, in December 2023.
In the year that he was murdered, the South African Local Government Association had just issued statistics on the murder of councillors in KwaZulu-Natal, which revealed that there were 17 councillors killed between September 2022 and July 2023. His death brought the number to 22 at the time.
Before his arrest, Zuma was out on R25 000 bail for the murder of his cousin, Qalokunye Zuma, who was the senior Induna for the Nxamalala Traditional Authority in Impendle, outside Bulwer.
