CAST MEMBERS LEXI MINETREE, JUNE DIANE RAPHAEL AND TOM EVERETT SCOTT TALK TO LYNN RUSK ABOUT THE LEGALLY BLONDE PREQUEL SERIES

- LYNN RUSK

There's a little bit of Elle Woods in all of us...

BRIMMING with charm, not to mention a life lesson or two, Noughties movie hit Legally Blonde saw moviegoers fall in love with the boundless optimism of its central character, Elle Woods - memorably played by Reese Witherspoon.

Now, 25 years after the film’s release, a prequel series, Elle, revisits her world, taking audiences back to a time before she became Harvard's most memorable fish out of water.

Set in 1995, the series follows a teenage Elle as she navigates the turbulent waters of high school, where she encounters complicated friendships, forbidden romance and, of course, a few questionable fashion choices.

The eight-part series sees actress Lexi Minetree take on the role of the beloved blonde, with her parents, Eva and Wyatt, played by comedian June Diane Raphael and That Thing You Do! star Tom Everett Scott.

Oscar winner Reese, 50, is revisiting the pop culture classic as her production company, Hello Sunshine, teams up with Amazon MGM Studios for Elle.

Lexi, 25, was selected by Reese from a pool of more than 5,000 hopefuls in an open casting call.

Having grown up watching the Legally Blonde films, the rising star says she always admired Elle’s unwavering confidence.

“I know when I was in high school, I definitely wasn’t confident, and I think, especially as a young woman, it’s so hard to take up space and not let society’s expectations get to you, how you should look or how you should act,” says the young actress who hails from Atlanta, Georgia.

“Watching someone be so sure of themselves, no matter what anyone said, was incredibly empowering.
