Magpies 'shut down deadline day approach for Botman'

NEWCASTLE United turned down an approach for Sven Botman on deadline day, according to reports in Germany.

German soccer magazine Kicker claim that Bayer Leverkusen tried to bid for the Holland international but the conversation was shut down quickly by United chiefs.
The Bundesliga club were in dire need of a centre-back after Piero Hincapie was sold for a fee of £45m and there was money in the coffers to spend.
However, Botman remains a key part of Eddie Howe's plans and was part of a five-man defence against Leeds United last week at Elland Road as Newcastle earned their second clean sheet in three opening Premier League games.
