IT may be cold, snowy and icy across the region - but for Robbie Wallace the heat is well and truly on.
The 28-year-old from Northallerton yesterday began a two-week adventure in the Saudi Arabian desert as the 2026 Dakar Rally got under way - and got a flying start. After finishing top Brit in his Dakar debut 12 months ago, the electrical engineer has been working hard since he returned home last January to raise the funds needed for his second attempt.
Having shipped his off-road KTM machine to Saudi Arabia late last year, Wallace headed out last Tuesday to get ready for the event.
On New Year's Eve, he arrived at the temporary camp at Red Sea port city Yanbu, known as a bivouac, to set up and reunite with his motorbike.
“We did all the checks and got in a test ride,” he said on Thursday night.
