Russell Kane blasts claims that comics get cancelled

- BY LAUREN MORRIS

COMEDIAN Russell Kane has rubbished claims that wokeness is ruining comedy and reckons that no one has ever been cancelled for telling a joke.

The 50-year-old tells us: “I don't know a comedian who's been cancelled for doing comedy. If only I was brave enough to say some slightly more outrageous and hurtful things, I'd probably be number one on Netflix.

“It's not my type of comedy — but my point is, I think there is more freedom of speech now than there was.”

After comedians including Jimmy Carr and Jack Whitehall were criticised for performing at the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia, Russell says that was not the same as being criticised for what they do on stage.
