Pep admits he has no clue how City will perform on world stage until kick-off

- FROM JOHN CROSS

PEP GUARDIOLA admits he will not know whether Manchester City can win the Club World Cup until after they arrive in the United States.

The City boss goes to the new-look tournament on the back of a frustrating season where they surrendered their Premier League title, lost the FA Cup Final and crashed out of the Champions League before the last 16.

But they do have the chance to make amends by winning the trophy and also pocketing the £97million jackpot for the winners.

They have already spent over £100m ahead of the Club World Cup after bringing in midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for £46.5m, plus they signed Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki.

It also signals the end of the road for Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker, who were not included in the squad and will be allowed to leave this summer after a turbulent year.

GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT WE'D BE WITHOUT YOU

A bonafide masterpiece celebrating 60 years, Brian Wilson’s answer to Rubber Soul began a back and forth with The Beatles that inspired Sgt Pepper! Wilson’s mental health was deteriorating but a fortunate by-product was his obsession with sound, and he’d spent days in the studio transforming a surf rock outfit into Baroque pop originators.
