Amorim tells wantaway duo Mainoo and Zirkzee: Put in the hard graft and you will get your chance

- BY STEVEN RAILSTON

FIGHT NOT FLIGHT

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ruben Amorim has challenged Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee to fight for their places in the team.

Mainoo asked to leave on loan in the final week of the summer transfer window, but his request was blocked.

The 20-year-old has made just five substitute appearances for United so far this season and Amorim said he must compete with Bruno Fernandes to start.

Zirkzee, who is desperate to represent Holland in the World Cup next year, is frustrated at only being given 82 minutes of action across all competitions this season.

Both players need regular football to stand a chance of reaching the tournament in America next summer.

Mainoo continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford in January and Zirkzee could look to leave if his situation does not improve.

Amorim, however, insists they are important squad players.
