Ex-Blues striker Sutton backs Kyogo to score 'big goals'

BIRMINGHAM City have been linked with a move for former Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi - and Chris Sutton has backed the Japanese star to be a scorer of ‘big goals’

- BRIAN DICK

The 30-year-old moved to Rennes for a deal claimed to be worth £10million in January 2025 after three-and-a-half prolific seasons for The Hoops.

Now Sky Sports claim Blues have ‘expressed an interest’ after the forward failed to have the desired impact for the Ligue 1 side, making only one league start and not scoring in six appearances.

The report says Blues have made ‘initial contact’ to discuss the outline of any possible transfer as they prepare to continue the rapid upward momentum built up in the Championship next season. It is said Rennes would be looking recover as much of their initial outlay as possible.

And former Blues striker Sutton reckons the loss of a player who scored 85 times for Celtic cost the Glasgow club a trophy last season.

“If Celtic had kept Kyogo, I believe they would have run away with the treble,” Sutton said.
