COLE COMFORT McKinnon levels for Airdrie, main, after Jamie Murphy puts Ayr ahead from spot
SCOTT BROWN admitted wasteful Ayr should have buried the Diamonds.
The hosts lost ground in the race for playoff places despite taking a 29th-minute lead through Jamie Murphy.
Cole McKinnon replied before the break for Airdrie.
Only two of Ayr’s 16 attempted shots hit the target. And striker Anton Dowds suffered a hat-trick of horror misses.
That stalled a run of 12 wins in a row for The Honest Men over Airdrie, who inched four points clear of bottom spot.
Gaffer Brown said: “We dominated first half. We should've been two or three up and out of sight. We did everything right but put the ball in the net from open play. That's disappointing and it has been a common theme.
“If we'd scored the second it would have killed the game.
