Mats insists Dons can't sulk after record defeat in Europe

- ANTHONY EVANS

KNOES OUT OF JOINT

MATS KNOESTER insists Aberdeen must fix the lack of team cohesion that saw them unravel so quickly and hit for six in Athens.

The Dons are still searching for a first point in the revamped Conference League after the 6-0 thrashing by AEK - the Dons' biggest ever defeat in a European competition.

Boss Jimmy Thelin has had some success by reverting to a 3-4-3 formation in recent weeks, but defender Knoester admits that the team’s lack of unity in their approach off the ball escalated their problems at the OPAP Arena.

The brutally-honest Dutchman stated: “Where do you start? There were too many things so you can't just point at one thing.

“We gave away too many easy counter attacks. What we need to do in these situations is to come together when they have the momentum.

“Instead we have too many thoughts in different players minds. It felt, for me, like some guys were thinking we should press and others wanted to become compact.
