RUGBY LEAGUE great Ray French has died at the age of 85.

The former St Helens, Widnes and Great Britain forward earned acclaim not only for his feats on the pitch but also off it.
After a brilliant playing career, earning four caps for England's rugby union side before switching codes in 1961 to join Saints, French became the much-loved voice of the BBC's rugby league coverage.
