THE outgoing boss of a university facing £12million in budget cuts spent more than £50,000 travelling to exotic locations in just over two years.

- BY JENNIFER HYLAND

Professor George Boyne, the vice-chancellor of Aberdeen University, racked up a total of £53,957 in expenses.

The figure included £45,053 on flights, of which £28,140 was spent travelling business class to Doha, Canada, New York, India and China between April 2023 and September last year.

Boyne, who took up the role in 2018, earned £339,000 including employer pension contributions last year, before stepping down as principal and vice-chancellor in October.

Last week, university bosses told staff it must make £12million in savings with proposals to cut undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as to stop recruitment for some postgraduate courses.

However, we can reveal Boyne travelled business class six times, including on a £7361 flight from Aberdeen to New York's JFK in October 2024.
