There's Grade 2 action at Aintree with the Old Roan Chase the highlight of the day in Liverpool.

The race is worth over £45,000 to the winner and that’s where the Skelton angle becomes a serious one.

Having been pipped to the UK trainers title for the past two seasons by Willie Mullins, the handler seems to be chasing the biggest prize money in the early weeks of the term to build a lead that his rival cannot reel back next spring.

Skelton had Fortune De Mer and Calico lined up beautifully for the two biggest purses on Friday's Cheltenham card and he'll have had this race targeted some time ago for Boombawn

The eight-year-old was a useful hurdler and has built again over fences, landing a Grade 2 at Wincanton last year.
