FAST bowler Saqib Mahmood has not given up on his Ashes dream, even if luck has seemed to conspire against him.
Mahmood was England’s standout bowler in the first one-day international against West Indies in Birmingham on Thursday, taking three top-order wickets in the 238-run win.
That haul, which included Windies captain and linchpin Shai Hope, exerted enough pressure to trigger a batting collapse but Mahmood, 28, fears that time is running out to re-establish his Test credentials.
An injury-plagued last few years, brought on by a couple of stress fractures in his back, means he has not featured under England’s red-ball leadership of captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum.
