NADINE Dorries finally resigned as an MP last night – 78 days after promising to stand down.
The former Culture Secretary delivered a scathing attack on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, accusing him of “demeaning his office by opening the gates to whip up a public frenzy” against her.
A by-election will now be held in her Mid-Bedfordshire constituency, where Liberal Democrats hope to overturn a 24,664 Conservative majority.
Ms Dorries, 66, announced on June 9 that she was resigning “with immediate effect” after an attempt by her close ally Boris Johnson to give her a peerage was blocked.
But she then clung on to her Parliamentary seat, despite failing to speak in the Commons Chamber since July 2022.
