AS first wedding anniversaries go this is a pretty special way to celebrate.
Czech world No 42 Marketa Vondrousova, watched by husband Stepan, became the one and only unseeded woman of the open era to be crowned Wimbledon singles champion.
Her victory on Centre Court yesterday defied the form book as she defeated sixth seed and last year's runner-up, Ons Jabeur, 6-4 6-4. All the more remarkable given that a year ago she was a spectator here with an arm in plaster after a second serious wrist operation.
The girl with tattoos all over her arms and body then pledged to get another one.
Vondrousova, 24, said: "After everything, I had a cast on my arm last year, to hold this trophy shows tennis is crazy.
"My little sister is crying in the stands and my husband is there too.
