Families flock to Dover as half-term getaway sparks chaos

THE half-term holiday getaway continued with a second consecutive day of queues of vehicles waiting to board cross-Channel ferries.

Families joined the rush to head to the continent at Dover, in Kent, yesterday after long jams built up at the port on Friday evening.

For those staying closer to home, after the driest April for more than a century, most of the country finally had some rain yesterday. But there are still drought warnings in place, with reservoirs and rivers only half-full across Britain.
