YOUNG people are being shut out of bus driving because Labour has parked plans to let 18 to 20-year-olds get behind the wheel, Tories say.

- By David Williamson

Shadow Transport Secretary Richard Holden said his Government left a "ready-made plan" to boost job opportunities for young people and run more rural buses.

The Tories launched a consultation on scrapping "outdated restrictions" which bar under-21s from driving buses and coaches on routes over 31 miles.

The current rules mean a fully trained young driver can take an HGV from Dover to Dundee but not a coach from London to Manchester.
