Japan favours 39 authentic flavours of UK

A TRADING breakthrough means much of Britain's best-loved food and drink could soon appear more often on menus in Japan.

Authorities in the East Asian nation have recognised 39 products and their protected status, so that British businesses can export them knowing they will not be imitated.

Items include Gower Salt Marsh Lamb, Cornish Sardines, Yorkshire Forced Rhubarb, Scottish Wild Salmon and Whitstable Oysters.

Japan is a country of 124 million consumers and last year it was the world's fourth largest economy.
