Met reviewing ruthless killings after claims by ex-detective

'Corrupt cops covered up gangland murder'

THE GANGLAND execution of a couple in a car is being reviewed by police after a retired detective claimed a former Krays associate organised the hit.

Mick Randall said police had the key to the unsolved 1989 murders decades ago, but corruption in the force undermined the hunt.

Terry Gooderham and girlfriend Maxine Arnold were killed amid fears he was going to inform on crimes linked to both a notorious London crime gang and Krays associate Connie Whitehead, claims Mr Randall. He has taken the rare step of naming his informant, the late enforcer Albert Reading, who days after the murders claimed Whitehead had put up the contract. Mr Randall says Reading was concerned about corrupt cops protecting those responsible.

The detective tried to pass the intelligence to the murder squad, but says it was intercepted and the suspects were never questioned.
