Boris on Sunday Express campaign: Acts of kindness can brighten up Christmas
Sunday Express
|December 18, 2022
BORIS JOHNSON and Chancellor Jeremy Hunt are backing the Sunday Express’s A Caring Christmas campaign, calling on readers to show kindness and goodwill to others over the festive season.
Mr Johnson wants big-hearted Britons to “look out for one another” and reconnect with the true “essence” of Christmas.
Mr Hunt urged people to “keep searching for chances to be caring”.
And the Archbishop of York is reminding the British public to “be a caring people in a caring nation”, as he also praised the initiative. They’re the latest among a host of leading figures, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who are supporting A Caring Christmas.
The campaign aims to encourage readers to carry out acts of kindness at a time when many are struggling.
Mr Johnson said: “Sometimes in all the excitement of Christmas we forget the essence of the story itself. It’s not about carols and mulled wine and turkey.
“It’s about a family who were so down on their luck that they had to move town in order to pay their taxes, even though the woman was heavily pregnant, and how they were so broke that she had to give birth in a barn and laid her baby in the place reserved for the animals’ hay.
“And it’s about the amazement on the face of that mother when complete strangers arrived and gave her baby presents.
