WOMEN'S WORLD CUP FINALS STARTS THURSDAY LIONESSES ON PROWL DOWN UNDER JEPANG SENES PASSENHETS | SAYS LUCY BRONZE

- Neil MOXLEY

'Am I still heartbroken? Yes, because we've been close in every World Cup I've ever played in'

LUCY BRONZE has just been shown a picture of the United States winning the World Cup four years ago.

Asked how she felt about it, only one word sprang to mind: "Heartbroken." If the Barcelona defender seeks any motivation ahead of this week's big kick-off, it surely came following that dramatic night in Lyon against the eventual winners in the semi-final.

Skipper Steph Houghton had an equalising penalty saved in the final 10 minutes and Ellen White's stray toe invoked a VAR decision which saw another goal wiped out on a night of what might have been.

Bronze, 31, clearly still wears the scars.

She said: "Funnily enough, I've never actually sat down and watched a World Cup Final - because we always get knocked out in the semi-finals.

"I know the goals and what happened in them but I've never watched them.
