Manor house restoration work due to finish later this year

RESTORATION works at a Stockport manor house with hundreds of years of history are set to finish later this year.

Inside the magnificent Bramall Hall in Stockport

Vital repairs started at the Grade I-listed Bramall Hall in 2024, with the backing of £1.6m from the Arts Council England's Museums Estates Development Fund.

The estate was around during the lives of King Henry VIII and William Shakespeare, an ever-present landmark throughout Stockport's past.

From the outside the scaffolding-clad building looks a mess at the moment, but within workers are busy doing jobs which will protect the historic site from water leaks which once threatened to cause 'irreversible damage'.

Described as 'one of the most beautiful treasures of England', the restoration of Bramall Hall is looking likely to be done by August this year, Stockport council said.
