Leaders edge Green in final over of game

HAWK Green travelled to play early league leaders Warrington on Saturday, and on winning the toss, skipper Dylan Heginbotham elected to bat, opening the innings with Josh Hampson and Lewis Clarke facing the Warrington opening attack of Ali and Gadepalli.

Both bowlers bowled accurately and with controlled aggression, causing problems to both batsmen and it was Clarke who fell first, lbw to Gadepalli for 4, 14-1.

Jack Needham was next to the wicket and looked quite comfortable but unfortunately, with the score on 41, he was caught off the bowling of Gadepalli for 19.

Gadepalli’s third wicket came when he removed the stubborn Hampson, caught Peddi for 13, 62-3.

Skipper Heginbotham and Sam Messih were the last two recognised batsmen and the Greens’ hope for a decent total - but Heginbotham fell for 19, caught Jones bowled Andrew for 19,76-4.

Unfortunately, Messih was adjudged lbw to Scholes for just 8, 100-5.

Where were the Greens runs going to come from?

‘This was initially answered by Lee Hallas and Ted Skelton with the former being the only batsman who looked comfortable against the Warrington bowlers.
