Binos’season ends with goalless draw

- Stuart McFarlane

Not a lot to shout about for final game

It was to be a damp squib to close out the season for Stirling Albion as they played out a goalless draw at a tense Station Park.

Forfar needed to avoid defeat to be sure of their safety for the season and avoid the dreaded playoff against Club 42 and they controlled much of the afternoon against a Stirling side featuring three changes from the disappointing home defeat to Clyde last time out.

The vibes at Station Park were reflective of the importance of the contest for either side, with a large and nervous Loons faithful contrasting with an away contingent featuring several in fancy dress.

The first chance of the afternoon fell for the Binos, as Ryan Shanley broke free of the home defence, but he dithered over his finish and allowed Adam Hutchinson in to make a good sliding challenge.

Shanley was left frustrated moments later when the Loons defence failed to clear a throw into the box, leading to a classic stramash where the ball flew at the feet of the ex-Falkirk forward, but his close range shot was blocked.
