Christopher Mills was attacked by two masked and armed men in a caravan in west Wales in what was initially thought to be robbery but which it is alleged was a planned raid designed to lead to his death

Mr Mills’ wife Michelle Mills is alleged to have conspired with former servicemen Geraint Berry and Steven Thomas to murder her husband - allegations the trio deny. The defendants are on trial at Swansea Crown Court.

The court has heard that on the night of Friday, September 20 last year, Michelle and Christopher Mills were in the lounge of their holiday caravan at the Argoed Meadow camping and caravan park in Cenarth near Newcastle Emlyn when there was a knock at the door.

Former soldier Mr Mills answered the door to find two masked and gloved men carrying handguns who then burst inside and attacked him. After a struggle, Mr Mills was able to disarm the men and fight them off, and the pair fled the scene.

Berry - who was having an affair with Michelle Mills - and Thomas were later found hiding in bushes near the campsite and arrested.

In their backpacks officers found gas masks, cable ties, a pair of pliers, and what the prosecution say is “fake suicide note” addressed to “Babs” - Michelle Mills - and purportedly written by Christopher Mills in which he apologised for beating and raping her.

Yesterday, the court heard details of text message exchanges between Berry and Michelle Mills.
