Warnings still in place after wintry weekend
South Wales Evening Post
|January 05, 2026
MUCH of South Wales has woken up to a wintry scene the past few days and a Met Office weather warning remains in force across the region today.
The first significant snowfall of the new year arrived overnight into Saturday.
After a slew of weather warnings were issued over the weekend as the cold blast continued, a Met Office “yellow” weather warning for snow and ice remained in force this morning - having started at noon yesterday and lasting until noon today - for every Welsh county except Anglesey.
Temperatures were also due to plummet to -10°C overnight last night in parts of rural mid Wales.
The Met Office said: “Whilst not all locations in the warning area will see snow, 1cm-3cm could develop in many places by Monday morning, with the potential for 5cm-8cm to build up in a few locations, particularly across inland and higher parts of Wales.
“Icy stretches are likely to form widely.”
