Red Plaque tribute to firefighter killed in accident

A NEW Red Plaque has been unveiled in Swansea in tribute to firefighter Alan Sherratt, who lost his life in a fire engine accident while responding to an emergency call 53 years ago.

The Red Plaque project, run by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) and funded by the Firefighters 100 Lottery, commemorates firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
Alan Sherratt was killed aged 24, when the fire engine he was driving overturned on September 24, 1972. Three fellow crew members were injured in the accident.
The plaque, unveiled on Wednesday, is located on the Alan Sherratt footpath, opposite the Carlton Hotel in Swansea, which was named in the firefighter's memory.
